Tattoo Performers – Band of America's Few

Jan. 12, 2012, Halifax, NS:

The Tattoo is pleased to welcome back the Band of America’s Few for the 2012 Tattoo. Thus strengthening the already strong bond between the Band and the Tattoo. The Band of America's Few, from soloist to formal concert band, dance band or marching band, always takes the audience by storm.

A law was passed in 1996 which prohibited Marines to be outside of the United States during July 4th, which falls in the middle of Tattoo performances. For years the Tattoo went without members of the Marines participating in the Tattoo. The Marines who had previously performed in the Tattoo formed a bond with the City of Halifax , with hopes of returning one day. In 2009 a meeting was held, and that dream started to become a reality, and the idea formed for the Band of America’s Few. The band was the brainchild of retired Matthew Farquhar, and he released his idea into the Facebook world, he was flooded with e-mails almost instantaneously of those who wanted to participate. Three hundred applied, and 50 were selected for the band.

The Band of America’s few is comprised entirely of former U.S. Marine Corps musicians, who are able to travel during July 4th. The veterans range from 20’s to early 60’s, come from all over the United States to participate in the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.www.nstattoo.ca.

The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo takes place July 1-8. Tickets are now on sale through the Ticket Atlantic Box Office: 902-451-1221. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.nstattoo.ca.
