Canadian Forces Major Contributor In 2009 Royal NS International Tattoo

HALIFAX, N.S. - Rear-Admiral Paul Maddison, Commander Joint Task Force Atlantic, will continue to support the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo this year. More than 350 soldiers, sailors, airmen and women from various units across Canada will take part.

  • Leading the way for its' 29th year is the ever popular and professional Stadacona Band of Maritime Forces Atlantic, the Tattoo's pit band. A composite band of 60 musicians from the Air Command Band based in Winnipeg, the Naval Reserve Band based in Quebec City, and the Band of the Ceremonial Guard based in Ottawa will also be on hand. And for those who enjoy the pipes and drums, from CFB Gagetown the Royal Canadian Regiment Pipes and Drums, the Nova Scotia Highlanders Pipes along with the Atlantic Region Cadets Pipes and Drums will sure to be popular.
  • Back again this year the Obstacle Race, featuring competing teams from the Navy (HMCS Charlottetown), the Army (36 Canadian Brigade Group) and the Air Force that will compete against one another. There will also be a jeep display which will see two teams of soldiers one team from Land Forces Atlantic Area and the second team from the Ceremonial Guard take apart and reassembling a jeep against the clock. A tri-service Guard will also be part of this year's Tattoo. Also, back again this year will be the Ceremonial Guard Drill Team from Ottawa.
  • Additional musical entertainment and pageantry will be provided by the Ottawa based Ceremonial Guard Band, the Air Command Band from Winnipeg, the composite Air Force Pipes and Drums from 12 Wing Shearwater and 14 Wing Greenwood, 2 Royal Canadian Regiment Pipes and Drums and the Land Forces Atlantic Area Band from Halifax.

There will also be many static displays set up on the mezzanine level of the Metro Centre showcasing CF operations and missions around the world, adding to the overall entertainment value for patrons attending the Tattoo. Additionally, the Army Mascot, Juno the Bear will make a nightly appearance.

Prior to each performance there will be static displays on the Grand Parade. On display will be armoured vehicles (LAV3 and ADATS), a CF F18 Cockpit and the Navy Display Bus.
