Volunteer at the Royal Nova Scotia
International Tattoo

Want to be part of the world's largest annual indoor show?

The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo relies greatly on volunteers, some of whom have been involved since the Tattoo's beginning in 1979. Volunteers travel from as far away as the Bahamas and Belgium every year just to be a part of this show!

If you would like to join the volunteer team, please complete the application form. Please note there are a limited number of volunteer spaces available, so not everyone will be chosen. Volunteers must be at least 19 years old.

The time commitment varies with each position. For instance, in addition to the production period, props volunteers are required periodically throughout the year while arena masters are required only during the production period. The production period, which is from approximately 20 June to 10 July, is the peak time for volunteering in all areas. The more flexible you are, the more likely you are to be chosen to volunteer.

Benefits

*Volunteers must work at least 20 hours to receive benefits.

Volunteer Position Descriptions

Arena Masters - Please contact the Production Office for more details.

Administration - Assist the admin staff with everything from typing to stuffing envelopes. Experience working in an office environment would be an asset for this position.

Backstage Marshals - Marshals maintain order backstage.
Duties may include keeping noise level down during performances, security - checking ID passes at entrances and ensuring performers are following safety rules.

Brochure/Poster Distributors - Do you live outside the HRM, but still want to get involved? Distributing posters and brochures in your community is the perfect opportunity.

Extras - Always dreamed of being in the spotlight? Joining the Extras team may be the answer. Tattoo Extras are used in the show wherever bodies are needed to complete a scene. Extras must be willing to make the commitment to be available for fittings, all required rehearsals and performances. Volunteering to be an Extra does not necessarily mean that you will be chosen. Certain scenes require male or female performers and those chosen must fit the costumes/uniforms in stock. When applying to become an Extra, you must provide clothing size, weight and height.

Friends Info Tables - Be on hand during performances to offer information on our Friends of the Tattoo program and sign up new members. Volunteers must commit to at least five performances.

General Duties/Runners - Assisting the Backstage Coordinator with daily activities which may include running errands, making deliveries within the Metro Centre, etc.

Props Assistants - If you are handy with a hammer or a paint brush, this is the perfect spot for you. Our props department is always looking for enthusiastic people to build and repair props. Carpentry experience is a definite asset, but not a requirement. Work times can be arranged for day or evening shifts. Props volunteers are required periodically throughout the year as well.

Wardrobe Assistants/Dressers - Assist the wardrobe department in ensuring the performers are dressed properly each evening. Sew on a missing button! This is a great opportunity to learn from the best!
